Hazel falls are like many of the mid-mountains waterfalls, cascading over an edge onto rocks with a few cascades near the top, like a number of the Lawson falls, you can walk behind these falls easily in a large overhang and with care, you could stand under these to cool off. Located in a cool bowl-shaped valley with ferns and serenity. Not many people do the Transit of Venus walk at Woodford that these falls are located on, so chances are you will have these to yourself. Originally these were called Fair Falls, but there was already a set of falls at Lawson called Fairy Falls, so in 1969 they were renamed Hazel Falls, after the nearby town of Hazelbrook.
Very easy to get to, about 10 minutes or so from the car and easy for kids as well. As you come down the hill on the fire trail under the power lines, it is worth stopping and listening to hear the creek tumbling, if you can hear the creek from here, the falls will be worth visiting, if you cannot hear the creek, chances are there will be very little flow and might be worth coming back another day.
