Grey Hat Falls is a spectacular waterfall when it is flowing and is located on Kanuka Creek, just above Crayfish Pool in Glenbrook National Park. It is just over a 1km walk from the parking spot, which is mostly all downhill, so gets the heart really pumping on the way out. There is one section right as you get to the creek level, that requires a bit of a scramble, not really suited to really small children or anyone not used to walking over uneven ground.
There is a large overhang above these falls on the left that people camp in and the pool is a stunning wild swimming spot, just don't let the giant eels worry you too much. There are a cvouple of places as you walk back out that it is easy to miss a hard zig back to the left to climb up a level, especially when it looks like the track continues straight ahead. Look at the map below to see where the track starts from.
These falls are also known as Tin Hat Falls and Kanuka Falls, they do take a bit of effort to get to, but after rain, are so worth it, particularly for the swimming.
